Insurance Coverage

At Harmful Habits, making care accessible is a priority. Efforts are ongoing to secure in-network insurance coverage with most major PPO insurers, with anticipated success by the end of 2024.

However, due to federal regulations, Medicare patients cannot currently be accepted, whether in-network or out-of-network. There is hope to change this in the near future.

Currently, in-network coverage is available with Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Oscar, Oxford, and Optum, as well as UnitedHealthcare Shared Services (UHSS), GEHA, Harvard Pilgrim, UHC Student Resources, UMR, All Savers (UHC), Surest, Meritain, Nippon, Allied Benefit Systems, Trustmark, Health Scope, and Christian Brother Services.

Efforts are being made to secure in-network status with Medicare, Empire, Anthem, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, though these insurers are currently out-of-network. The same applies to other insurers not listed above, including Medicaid.

For those residing in New York with Medicaid, Medicare, or other insurances not accepted, in-network care may be accessible through a referral to Weill Cornell. This would require an initial in-person visit in Manhattan, with the possibility of combining telehealth and in-person care afterward, depending on the situation.

For out-of-network patients, an itemized bill can be provided for submission to insurance for reimbursement, with many patients recouping a significant portion of their out-of-network spending. Care is also available at listed rates for those who are uninsured, out-of-network, or prefer to maintain confidentiality from insurance.
